CURRENT PROFILE:
Horsham Regional Art Gallery is housed in a fine Art Deco building, refurbished, and extended in 1999.
We have four temporary exhibition spaces featuring changing exhibitions of contemporary and traditional art and photography.
Horsham Regional Art Gallery was one of the first Victorian public galleries to receive Accreditation from Museums Australia and the Australian Tourism Accreditation Association, in recognition of best industry practice and a high level of commitment to the future of the Gallery and its continual improvement.
FUTURE:
Horsham Town Hall and Art Gallery Redevelopment
In 2009, the Federal and State governments each announced $5 million in funding toward the redevelopment of the Town Hall facility and balance will be provided by the Horsham Rural City Council. This project will bring together the visual arts, performing arts and community activities in a state-of-the-art facility.
HRAG is preparing to relocate in mid 2010 for the duration of construction. The planned works include a dedicated education workspace, a larger storage facility to accommodate the Gallery's growing Collection, as well as resurfacing of the Gallery's walls and floors.
PERMANENT COLLECTION:
The collection has two main focus areas: Australian art - 450 paintings, drawings and prints with the main holdings in the Mack Jost Collection, and photography - 800 works, early to contemporary.
The Australian art collection includes a small collection of ceramics and sculpture. Another focus is works of regional significance.
A newly acquired aspect of the collection is that of Australian Wildlife Art; mainly works on paper and centred around the Bill and Maureen Mann Collection.
The Mack Jost Gallery displays mainly items from the collection of Horsham Gallery's major benefactor, the late Mr Mack Jost OA.
